We decided to go to the NH house for New Years since we didn't have anything else to do. Since I was being shallow I wanted to get one more 4k this year (That way I would have one in every month). We decided on Tecumseh since we could pack up our snowboards and take the easy way down the ski area. We got to the ski area relatively early but got stuck in ski area traffic and had a hard time finding a parking spot. When we parked we met another VFTTer who was meeting another group.|
We loaded up our gear and began the climb. Initially the climb started gradually up a cross slope. Eventually we dipped down into a valley for a stream crossing and began the rest of the climb. We had views of the ridge and the summit throughout the hike. The ridge looked very close but the climb adjacent to the ski area never seemed to end. Luckily the climb was fairly moderate the whole way so we were able to keep a good pace. We thought we were a lot closer to the ridge than we were so it seemed to take forever to reach the trail junction.
When we reached the trail junction we layered up, snacked, and (finally) dropped our snowboards. The climb up to the summit was easy without the additional weight on our backs.
We summited, took some pictures, and began our descent. At the trail junction we picked up our snowboards (which seemed heavier) and took the Sosman trail to the top of the ski area. Unfortunately the Sosman trail wasn't broken out other than a lone skier so we did some more trail breaking and a bit of sinking in. When we hit the summit of the ski area we changed to our snowboard boots and began our fun descent. Unfortunately the conditions at the ski area were pretty terrible but it beat walking.
