People On The Trip

Trip Report

Nicole and I were too lazy to go to the high peaks this weekend but we still wanted to hike. We woke up late on Sunday and headed out to Hadley mountain. It was a nice drive out that way, it was also nice to see another section of the park.

When we arrived at the parking area we were surprised to see over 20 other cars in the parking area and on the road. We suited up and began the climb. It was a nice moderate and somewhat steep hike (2.4 mi with 1500 feet gain). The hike starts off at a decent grade for the first half and then eventually gets onto the summit ridge. From here it is a nice gradual grade up to the top. At the top there is a fire wardens cabin and the tower. The nice thing about Hadley mountain is that the summit is naturally bald and there are views at ground level. We practically ran down Hadley while enduring the questions about how the skiing was (hiking poles cause non hikers to ask questions). At the bottom we got in the car and headed to Kane (with a stop at Stewarts Shop)

We arrived at Kane in short order and began the climb (1.4 mi RT w/500 feet of gain). We made great time up to the summit (20 minutes). At the top we enjoyed the views from the tower (a very tall one). After soaking in the views we began the descent. The climb and descent were very steep (we climbed from the South trailhead).
