People On The Trip

Trip Report

We arrived at the garden parking lot and were on the trail by 9. We made good time getting up to the brothers, but we were slowed a little bit by the rock scrambles along the way. After re-entering the woods after The Brothers our pace slowed because we were somewhat breaking trail (1 person was ahead of us on 8-12" of fresh snow). A group of 2 behind us was using our snowshoe tracks since they were barebooting but they eventually passed. When we arrived at the JBL junction another large group passed us on the way to the summit. Eventually we summited and took a break.

On the way down at the JBL trail junction we debated descending via that route however it had not been broken. Instead we decided to take the Brothers back down and deal with re-gaining the elevation to get to The Brothers. We were making good time until we ran into the rocky areas of the brothers. On the way up it was snow covered and snowshes were fine, but a large amount of traffic and warm temperatures had exposed a lot of the rock making the descent difficult. Eventually we got back to the car and headed to the Lumberjack for a well deserved dinner.

The Good and The Bad

The Good:

Great views from The Brothers on the way down
Reasonable length hike
Good snow conditions at elevation

The Bad:

Barebooters
No view from big slide

The Drive

Kevin and his friends were going to ski one of the slides on LWJ, so they were staying in LP for friday night. We decided to crash with them for the night to take the edge off the morning drive. On the way up it was snowing pretty good, but the drive back down was easy.
