People On The Trip

Trip Report

Goal was to go up the neversink, hit the Balsam Cap/Friday Col, then go left to Friday, then work the way back to Table.

Got off track a few times on the neversink, which cost us a bunch of time. Climb up to the ridge wasn't bad until around 200 feet below, where we hit some dense spruce that slowed us considerably. Took the first herd path we found, which wasn't _the_ herd path, so we stayed on the ridge line all the way to the summit. Met a couple at the summit and attempted to follow the actual herd path back, but quickly got cliffed out.

Once at the bottom of the cliffs, we were able to find our way over to BC. The descent of BC had a good herdpath which quickly petered out. The bushwhack over was pretty brutal, relying fairly heavily on GPS along the way. The remainder of the peaks were the same, follow a herd path, have it fade away, then pick up another one on the climb on the other side of the col.

Only area where we had navigational trouble was between Lone and Table where we found ourselves heading too far north. We contoured south to get back on the ridge. Once on Table, it took a while to find the trail, but once we found the trail we were golden.

Out and back to Peek was great, descent from Table was tough, as most Catskill descents are. There were two PUD on the way down which were unexpected and unwelcome. It was very fun to look east and see the peaks which we had just climbed.
