People On The Trip

Trip Report

It was ADKHP weekend and we decided to hike Colden since we wanted something on the easier side and I (Nicole) still needed it for winter. Forecast called for some snow in the morning and clear in the afternoon, but as usual the weatherman lied and we got snow all day.

Made good time to Marcy Dam and took our time getting to up to trail junction and to the summit. Trail had been broken out, but we figured it would be since we got a late start. The cave was snowed in and looked pretty cool. No views on top but, despite the wind, we made our way to the erratic for fun. On the way down, Mike fell into a spruce trap up to his waist with both feet which caused me to dig for 5+ minutes to free his snowshoe.

Met two guys with snowboards on their backs searching for the 1990 slide... they are probably still there!

Made our way back out to Marcy Dam pretty speedy and moved quickly towards the parking lot so we could go fill some growlers at the pub and enjoy the great company that is always present at the winter gathering!
