People On The Trip

Trip Report

Woke up late as usual in Syracuse, drove up and in the parking lot of the LOJ by noon. Got dressed, signed in, realized we forgot the poles, treked back across the parking lot for those and back again, then realized we forgot the sleds in the car...oh well, maybe next year...We walked [for what seemed like hours] to Marcy Dam - not passing a soul. The snow was icy for the most part, and in some places, it was just mud. Marcy Dam was quiet. We took a couple pictures, and continued on our way after chugging some water. 2 more miles to the top...the first mile, went by fairly fast. We took the left to the junction to the top. And then the \"real\" ice began. We had crampons, in the backpack, and were up to the challenge of barebooting it. Everyone we passed coming down warned that we would need them, making it harder to put them on, only to prove that we could do it without crampons! We passed a group that had just W-46ed, except, not sure they knew it was spring already [the one was sliding down on her butt, blaming it on the booze] We finally made it to the top, couldn\'t find a sign in the trees, so instead walked all over the top in the woods to be sure we hit the summit at some point. The way down was uneventful - slid down on our butts for most of the top to avoid a bigger fall.
