Trip Report

Nicole and I wanted to attempt the Hancocks in NH. We finally got to try out our new Microspikes (they were awesome). Unfortunately the stream crossings were completely open. The trail bypassed the first and second crossing but crossed at the third. At the third crossing I fell in up to my knee but gore-tex pants and boots kept me relatively dry. We decided to continue on. At the 4th crossing it was completely uncrossable so we went back to the 3rd crossing and then bushwhacked up to the 3rd crossing. Eventually we got to the 5th crossing which would not have been possible either. At this point we had wasted nearly an hour messing around with the stream. We could have gone back to the 3rd crossing, crossed, hiked to the 4th then bushwhacked to the 5th but we were low on time. The hike out was uneventful although the day was a disappointment.

The Good and The Bad

The Good:

New microspikes
Good trail conditions

The Bad:

Falling in the stream
My awesome bloody nose

The Drive

A waste of time considering we spent 5 hours driving for about 4 hours of hiking
